APPLICATION TYPES AND PROCEDURES

New Student – First Time Students

Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 non-refundable application fee

Submit an official copy of your high school or high school equivalency transcript

  1. High School Graduates
    • Submit your official high school transcript showing the graduation date
    • Submit official AP scores via Collegeboard.org
    • The transcript can be mailed or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope
    • Electronically delivered transcripts are preferred.  Please submit to admissions@columbustech.edu.
    • The high school must be accredited by an agency included on the TCSG approved accreditation list. View approved accreditation list.
    • High school Certificates of Attendance or other certificates, credentials, or documents where the student did not complete all required coursework or testing required for a high school diploma in that state are not recognized for admission purposes
  2. High School Equivalency (GED, HISET etc.) Graduates
    • Submit your high school equivalency transcript showing passing scores on all sections of the test
    • Official high school equivalency transcripts can be mailed or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope
    • They can be requested electronically at TCSG.edu/adult-education
  3. Home School Students
    1. Applicants who were home schooled at an accredited program must submit:
      • Annual progress reports or a final transcript for the equivalent of the homeschooled student’s junior and senior years
        • The final progress report or transcript must include the graduation date
    2. Applicants who attended a non-accredited high school or home school must submit an official transcript and one of the following
      • Official scores from an assessment instrument meeting college established required minimums per 6.2.1p.a2.  TCSG Placement Chart
      • Successful completion of 12 hours of college coursework for credit that appear on an official college transcript
  4. Exceptions
    • to numbers 1, 2, and 3 above include those students seeking enrollment into an approved basic workforce certificate that does not require a high school diploma or high school equivalency for admission, as listed in 6.2.1p.a2  Program Placement Information

Submit proof of lawful presence and proof of Georgia residency to qualify for in-state tuition

  1. Alabama residents from Lee, Chambers, Russell, and Barbour counties may qualify Reciprocity, which grants the in-state tuition rate.
Returning Student – Previous CTC student that has not been enrolled for 3 or more semsters

Welcome back!  Returning students do not have to pay an application fee

If it has only been one or two semesters since you have attended simply visit the Academic Advisement Center and to schedule your classes

If it has been three or more semesters since you have attended, you will need to submit a Returning Student Application:

  1. Submit Returning Student (Re-Admit) Application
  2. Follow instructions in the Application Portal
  3. Check your email and text messages for updates from Admissions.  We may need you to re-submit some Admissions Checklist items.
Transfer Student – Students that have prior enrollment at another college

Columbus Tech welcomes students who have previously attended other colleges or universities. If you have ever attempted college courses at another institution, you are a considered a transfer student and would need to complete the simple steps below:

  1. Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 non-refundable application fee
  2. Submit an official copy of your high school or high school equivalency transcript. Transfer applicants who submit an official transcript from a regionally accredited college or university that shows one of the following does not need to submit their high school transcript:
    • Completion of an associate degree or higher do not need to submit their high school transcript
    • Completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter credit hours of coursework
    • Completion of degree-level math and English course
  3. Submit proof of lawful presence to qualify for in-state tuition. View the list of acceptable lawful presence documents to learn more.

Students who wish to have prior college credit evaluated for transfer or intend on using a funding source that requires the evaluation of prior college credit, such as HOPE Scholarship or Veterans Educational Benefits, must submit all post-secondary transcripts along with their admission application.

Dual Enrollment Students – Students currently enrolled in a Georgia high school or home school that wish to earn college credit
  1. Apply for Dual Enrollment at Columbus Tech
  2. Complete the GAfutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application HERE!
  3. Have a parent/legal guardian approve the Student Participation Agreement (email from GaFutures/Georgia Student Finance Commission)
  4. Email qualifying scores to Columbus Tech: dualenrollment@columbustech.edu
    • Dual Enrollment placement procedures are the same as Beginning/New students and are mostly satisfied with the a 2.0 high school GPA.
    • The entire Placement Requirements be found in Procedure 6.2.1p2.

Transient Students – students that are currently enrolled at another college but wish to take 1 or more classes from CTC with approval from their home college

Students currently enrolled at another regionally accredited institution may enroll as a transient student on a space-available basis in order to complete coursework to transfer back to their home institution

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 non- refundable application fee.
  2. Submit a transient letter from your home institution to admissions@columbustech.edu.  A new transient letter is required for each additional term.
  3. Submit proof of lawful presence and proof of Georgia Residency to qualify for in-state tuition
Special Admit Students (non-degree seeking) – applicants that wish to take credit coursework but are not seeking a certificate, diploma, or degree in a program

The special status admission category is designed for students who are not seeking a certificate/diploma/degree but who desire credit for coursework in a specific program. The following admission parameters apply under this classification.

  1. Submit the Application for Admission
  2. Pay the one-time $25 application fee
  3. Special status students are not eligible for financial aid.
  4. Courses selected by special status students are subject to specific prerequisite requirement.
  5. The number of hours taken as a special admit student in no way waives the requirements of the regular admission process.
  6. Students may enroll in classes on space-available basis.
  7. Submit Lawful Presence documentation and proof of Georgia residency to be eligible for the in-state tuition rate.

Online Admission Application

Once you complete and submit the CTC Online Admission Application you can still use the same username and password to access a dynamic Enrollment Portal based off of the information you put on your application. The Enrollment Portal will allow you to view and upload required documents for admission, sign up for Orientation, and view various student resources around campus. Be sure to click the “Next Steps” tab in the Enrollment Portal for a list of things you should do once you are admitted to the college.

Request for transcripts to be sent to Columbus Technical College

You may use our Request for Official School Transcript form to request transcripts be sent to Columbus Technical College from another institution. Mail the completed form to the school from which you need a transcript

Mini-mester

A mini-mester is a “miniature semester” that takes place midway through a semester.  At Columbus Tech, the accelerated mini-mester will run about 7.5 weeks.  Even though the terms are shorter, they earn the same credit hours as a traditional, full-length semester.  In other words, it’s a fast-track format.  These courses are only available to CTC students who are currently enrolled for less than 12 hours and for new, already accepted students.  Here is a list of courses available for the upcoming mini-mester

Verification of Lawful Presence in the United States

Effective January 1, 2012, all students applying for in-state or and out-of-state tuition waiver must provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. The following documents will serve as proof of lawful presence in the United States and documentation will be required before you are eligible for consideration of in-state tuition, or an out-of-state waiver:

  • Students who file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and are eligible for federal student aid under Title IV will have their lawful presence verified as part of the FAFSA process.
  • A clear copy of an original or certified U.S. Birth Certificate showing the student was born in the U.S. or a U.S. territory, A U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State (DS-1350) or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240). The copy must very clearly show the raised or written seal to be acceptable.
  • A U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS form N-550 or N-570).
  • A U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS form N-560 or N-561).
  • A current U.S. Passport.
  • Unexpired Georgia and select out of state Drivers licenses and state ID cards can be accepted under certain conditions. It must be a Real ID and not contain any of the verbiage in the chart below. If the copy received has the top portion of the card cut off the document will not satisfy lawful presence.
  • A current military ID (service member only, not dependent). Documented using the Confirmation of Review of Military ID Worksheet – A photocopy is not acceptable.
  • A current, valid Permanent Resident Card (USCIS form I-151 or I-551). We require both the front & back sides of your Permanent Resident Card to be submitted. It must not expire before the first day of class of the term the student will start classes.
  • Students admitted on an F, J or M Visa will have their lawful presence verified through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
  • Students admitted on any other Visa will have their lawful presence verified through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program

Any student who cannot be verified as lawfully present in the United States is not eligible to be considered for in-state tuition, or an out-of-state waiver, regardless of how long he or she has lived in Georgia. In addition to being lawfully present in the United States, students must meet the in-state tuition requirements as outlined in TCSG Board Policy and Procedure V.B.3 to warrant an in-state classification. Students that are initially classified as out-of-state and successfully petition to have their residency changed to in-state also have to meet the verification requirement.

Items needed for Proof of Georgia Residency – In-State Tuition
